The Edge of Reason
It has been nothing but a whirlwind. Truly. The biped got his masters degree and what else? He was awarded the Norris Church Mailer Scholarship! A surprise and an honor! He's thrilled, but I wasn't even allowed to go to the ceremony! Do you know that? NO DOGS ALLOWED. I'm so sick of this discrimination!!
The biped barely pays attention. He is on cloud nine. Here I am with the paperwork.
And then we buzzed back to Provincetown--what a relief to come back home! I ran around the apartment barking my face off.
But the weather remains something less than ideal. You get this for an hour.
And then this for the next 24. Very strange.
So we stay inside reading and lying around. Here are some nice pics of me the biped took.
And he got this beautiful shot of the town at night--with an iPhone!!

Yews and Laurels
We're still in Wilkes-Barre, believe it or not. Will this ordeal ever end? It must be coming to a close soon, because the biped is going to a "graduation" dinner tonight. He's graduating with his Masters, but is keeping on for his Masters in Fine Arts, which means we have to come back here in January. Brrrrr.
At least this time of year, there are trees in full leaf. Here are a few really nice ones.
And here's the river--they've just opened up a new park along the riverfront. It's very nice.
Here's a movie about it.
And who knew that Wilkes-Barre and Provincetown had a connection? Ptown artist Franz Kline was born here!
The biped has been in classes and panels and seminars. His book has gotten some good feedback and he is excited to get back to Provincetown to begin revisions (that's what he says at least). I just want to be back in my space--this hotel smells like a lot of stuff I don't even like to think about.
Speaking about smells, here's a visual essay on what Wilkes-Barre smells like.
He also has gone out a little bit. Here's what a gay bar in Wilkes-Barre looks like!

Beautiful, Brassy, Burgeoning Wilkes-Barry
Well, the biped and I are in the WB again. The square looks nice in summer, doesn't it? Definitely better than last January!
It's in northeastern Pennsylvania, NEPA they call it. The biped is here for his "writing" program, there's some talk about a novel and publishers and agents and blah, blah, blah. I just want my kibble and the dehydrated chicken breast treats I have come to love so much.
And while the biped is in "classes" and "readings" all day...
I'm looking around the neighborhood for interesting clubs to join.
We're back at the Best Western, too. Our first room was reflections of fleabag, smelly, smoky, noisy. I made the biped get us a new room and I am thrilled with it. I like to play on the gigantic bed--I want one of these at home!! I also like to hide under the bed.
And our technological difficulties are at an end!! The biped bought an iPhone on Friday--and it has a camera and video recorder on board. Here he is taking a picture of us in the mirror. I love to sit on his back!
Look at this thing! I've never seen one of these before and I'm terrified to think what it is for, but I have been asking the biped to keep the door closed when he showers.
This picture of me is so cute, I have to post it twice.

Crank It Up!
I hate to double-post in one day, but this is something I've been meaning to put out there for awhile. On our cross-country trip, the biped acquired a beautiful and VERY old portable Victrola. It's quite a stunner.
He bought it because in the late fall, he found a book of old 78's at the Methodist Church Thrift Shop. So here's a video of our favorite song playing on the Victrola! The singer is Una Mae Carlisle--we had never heard of her, but now we are instant fans!

The Plagues of Egypt
Was rain one of the plagues? What were they? Rivers turn to blood. Locusts. What else? The slaughter of the innocents. Was throwup one? Because we've had rain for what seems like a year and I just threw up.
Fortunately, the biped is here to clean up after me. He takes care of the inside of the house. I take care of the outside. And what have I been doing since I last posted, you ask? Well, why don't I show you.
I gave biped a list and we went to the Agway in Orleans and bought plants like we were fools. It's Phase II of Operation Chihuahua Garden. First, we've been nursing some grass seed that has begun to grow like...well, like weeds for the past week or so. With the grassy beachhead established, we are moving onto bedding.
So far we've planted some catmint...
astilbe and various shades of salvia and english lavender...
and a beautiful rose 'Bonica' bush...
We're keeping the daylilies and seeing how they do. We have big plans for plantings of azaleas, foxglove, hollyhocks, bleeding hearts, columbine and Dog knows what else. Oh, and we've got some Siberian irises and some bee balm.
Here's a patch of secret irises that JUST bloomed. They're back in the Covert Action Garden.
And here are some photos from the inside...the biped-mother is going to create some drapes so that we can finally have a little privacy in here! Here are the windows that are in desperate need of cover.
Thanks, biped-mother!
And can you see this little guy?
It's a baby sparrow. One of a pair that go hopping around the garden, tweet-tweeting after their parents who have been teaching them to eat and fly. They come right up to us, no fear. The biped and I are just part of the background for them. And we're having fun watching them grow.

Fair Weather Friends
The biped is getting a little carried away with the decorating. He keeps snapping photos and insisting that I post them, which I am loathe to do. But here they are anyway. I do like the rug.
He went out on the harbor in a kayak today with his giant friend. The pictures he brought back are beautiful.
Rocks and clam shells.
Lighthouse.
Big boy.
Beach roses in bloom.
I stayed home and tended to the garden. Somebody's got to do some work around here!!
Check out this little movie of some lunatic in an ultralight buzzing boats on the bay. Say that twenty times fast.

Who?
- Clovis
- Provincetown, Massachusetts, United States
- I am a California native transplanted to the East Coast and have grown to accept both the snowy weather of winter and the hard-bitten attitudes of New Englanders. Since I moved here in October of 2006, I think I've become something of a native, although the locals will always call me a "bark-ashore". If you have any questions, just ask!
