Chitter Chatter

We had no heat or hot water this morning. In fact, the heat went off the night before around 8pm. I was here, but the biped was out at a dinner. I was left at home, because that Cheenu was there. But the biped doesn't understand that I've grown up a lot. I know what my purpose is. And my purpose is to protect my home at all costs. And if Cheenu happens to stumble in here and drink my water and lie on my floor, I'm sorry, but Cheenu will reap the whirlwind.

Anyway, we didn't have heat or hot water this morning. And I don't care so much about the water (except on bath day), but it was FREEZING in here. 54 degrees! Fortunately, they came and fixed the boiler--and then the ceiling starts leaking!

We had quite a snowstorm here the other day--but overnight it turned into a torrential downpour.

I have not been spending a lot of time outside lately--even for my bathroom breaks. I used to leap around when the biped brought out my harness, but now I shiver in a corner and try to crawl under the bed. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO PALM SPRINGS????

Early Thaw

It got warm for about 30 or 45 minutes today. When I say warm, I mean like 38 degrees or so. Fahrenheit. Here's a picture of the beach--the snow is still there and the harbor is so calm.

This is where the biped says he goes to "work". The library. It has nice views.

And this big boat. He's clearing his schedule so that he can focus on his "book". Right, right. I've heard that before.

Otherwise, I'm just trying to find interesting ways to pass the time. Here I am making shadow puppets.

Here's a couple shots from sunset the other night. Check out that snow on the beach!

Here's what I eat.

Here's what the biped eats. Do you see a problem here??

Obamabration!!!

Okay, I am thinking of as many ways of working the name Obama into celebration words as possible...like Obamabration. Or....

Obamamania
Obamania
Obamathon
Obamallujah
Obamanalia
Obamboree
Obamacue (or Obama-que)

What else?

The inauguration was beautiful. The quartet. The poem. Dianne Feinstein's jacket. Everything except that cracker Rick Warren's invocation. Hey Rick, how about "inclusion"? Is it true that you've taken down your anti-gay hate-speak from your website....I wonder whose idea that was!!

But let's not let one bad apple spoil the....the....the sour mash? Here's a video from last night's sunset. Again, I can't get over it. It was just gorgeous.

And here's a picture of Aretha Franklin's hat.

And I hate to end on a nasty note (you know that!), but I can't help but think that there was no more poetic way to end the Bush years than to have Dick Cheney show up in a wheel chair!!

Barack Obama is Jesus

It's not a sacrilege. It's just the truth. The biped and I are both flabbergasted. I mean, we liked him before. But is he kidding? He is unbelievable. And the biped is CYNICAL. Maybe it's because he could never imagine George and Laura giving their time to a soup kitchen and meaning it. What an amazing time--the whole country is swimming in a big pool of good karma.

And the sunset proves it. This is one of the most beautiful sunsets we've seen--and going down over the moors frozen with snow.

And I want to thank Brett for his beautiful present. I think it's gorgeous--here I am wearing it with my new cashmere sweater. But it's too big. I've asked the biped to mediate the Cole Haan returns line for me. I'll let you know what we get back!

Here's a shot from one of our recent snowstorms!

Gift Frenzy

Thanks again to Suzi and Marge! Here are some pics of me with the new t-shirt and my immediately beloved teddy bear. It's just my size.

And here is another photo essay as I reflect back upon my time in Wilkes-Barry. I want to take a moment and talk about the faded grandeur of the "Diamond City". It was once the center of a massive coal mining industry, in addition to Planter's Peanuts and Woolworth's (local Fred Kirby was a co-founder). Because of Wilkes University, some of the grand old mansions from the WB's heyday are preserved....

I also went to a couple room parties at the hotel. There's nothing like a room party to make you feel like you went to college. I got to know some of the biped's classmates, like Scott here.

And George, too. The biped thinks George's facial hair makes him look like Custer.

Here's George.

Here's Custer (and his beautiful wife Libbie)

The Return of the Prodigal

The first thing I have to do is thank thank THANK Suzi and Marge for their wonderful presents. Marge got me a beautiful tiny teddy and t-shirt (pictures of Marge's presents to come) and Suzi got me this GORGEOUS sweater. What do you think?

And yes, in case you were wondering: The biped and I have made it back to Provincetown after an extended sojourn in Wilkes-Barry, PA. We made our retreat in darkness in the early hours of the morning. Well, the biped retreated. I was busy handling the baggage train and watching out for snow. Here's the sunrise. We had a good joke over that.

You know,
Red skies at night, Taylor's delight.
Red skies at morning, Taylor take warning.

And here's one of my photo essays that I didn't have time to post in WB. I noted very quickly that this was a community with a long history of celebrating the phallus as architecture.

What is this one FOR?

I've got my green contacts in again! This is the face I make when I'm desperate for the treat in the biped's hand.

In Memoriam

The biped and I are both in mourning. We heard today that Atticus, Mitch's Golden Retriever, passed away. I know I've said some unkind things about Golden Retriever's in the past, but Atticus was different. He scared me, of course, in the beginning, but he's so big and I'm so small. But he was always friendly and warm, ready to nuzzle the biped's hand or just hang out. We will both miss him very much and Provincetown is the less for his passing. Farewell, old friend. I'll meet you on the other side.

Here's a movie from last summer where Atticus makes a brief appearance. I'm glad I held on to it.

Shopping the Wyoming Valley

The biped is in all sorts of "programs". I'm wondering what exactly the real purpose of this "residency" is....

Irregardless, it leaves me a lot of free time, so I've been walking around town looking for something to do. I've found, oddly enough, that there is a superabundance of Dollar Stores in Wilkes-Barre.

This is also an interesting store to have in a shopping area....

Here's the old Stegmaier Brewery in Wilkes-Barre. It's near the hotel and there's one of the mountain ridges behind it.

Here's a video I took of the ice floes on the Susquehanna River.

And I've been spending a lot of time in the hotel working on my blog posts....

and just lying around enjoying this enormous bed with its enormous pillows!

Who?

My photo
Provincetown, Massachusetts, United States
I am a California native transplanted to the East Coast and have grown to accept both the snowy weather of winter and the hard-bitten attitudes of New Englanders. Since I moved here in October of 2006, I think I've become something of a native, although the locals will always call me a "bark-ashore". If you have any questions, just ask!
